〈Resonance〉 begins by questioning the ideas that ceramics should possess a perfect form, a smooth surface, and the stable functionality of a vessel. Elements commonly regarded as defects such as cracks, distortions, and rough textures are placed at the centre of the work, while the irregular rhythms and material qualities they create are considered as a new formal language.

The work brings together 〈Vessel Form, a series of three-dimensional works that departs from the perfect forms and smooth surfaces conventionally expected of ceramics and reinterprets vessels composed of imperfect elements through new materials and colours, and 〈Planar Form〉, a series of two-dimensional works that abstractly reconfigures materials generated during the ceramic-making process.

The three-dimensional works reconsider the assumption that ceramics must take a perfect form, while the planar works question the assumption that ceramics must exist as three-dimensional vessels. Each vessel in 〈Vessel Form〉 partially retains the contours of traditional ceramics, yet its surface and structure are irregularly transformed. The vividly coloured forms of fragments reveal the possibility of ceramics existing in another way. 〈Planar Form〉 restacks on a flat surface the fragments and traces of materials that have fallen away during this process of transformation, revealing that the materiality of ceramics remains alive even when it moves beyond the form of the vessel.

Although different in form, the two bodies of work question conventional ideas of ceramics and expand its boundaries. Elements once regarded as defects emerge as new possibilities when viewed from a different perspective, and this way of seeing extends beyond ceramics to reach those aspects of our lives that have also been considered imperfect.

Ultimately, the two bodies of work begin with the same material, with one developing into three-dimensional form and the other into the planar. Although they take different forms, each exists in its own place as part of a single ceramic language, resonating with the other.
