<The perfect imperfection>

이 작품은 반려견의 죽음을 통해, 사랑하는 존재가 한 줌의 재로 변해가는 과정을 마주한 경험에서 출발한다. 그 경험은 ‘손가락 사이로 빠져나가는 것을 붙잡으려 애쓰는’감각을 남겼고, 그것은 마치 금이 간 항아리에 물을 붓는 일과 같았다.

완전한 형태를 잃은 항아리는 더 이상 아무것도 담지 못하고 기능을 상실하지만, 나의 작품 안에서는 하나의 형태로서 여전히 아름답게 존재한다. 나는 이 지점에서 흠으로 간주되어 배척되던 불완전한 요소들이 오히려 새로운 감각과 가치를 만들어낼 수 있음에 주목한다. 깨짐과 균열, 거친 질감과 흘러내린 유약의 흔적은 결함이 아니라, 완전함이라는 기준을 다시 재고하게 하는 조형적 언어가 된다.

우리의 사회는 ‘흠’이나 ‘결함’이 있다고 여겨지는 것들을 쉽게 무가치하다고 판단하고 배척한다. 나는 이 항아리를 통해 가치 판단의 이분법을 넘어, 배척되거나 관념의 바깥에 존재하는 것들 속에서 새로운 가능성을 발견하는 출발점을 제시하고자 한다.


<The perfect imperfection>

This work is inspired by the experience of my dog’s death, and by witnessing her become a handful of ashes. That experience left me with the sensation of ‘trying to grasp something slipping through my fingers’, and it felt like pouring water into a cracked jar.
A jar that has lost its complete form can no longer hold anything and becomes functionless, yet within my work it still exists beautifully as a single form. At this point, I hope that imperfect elements, once regarded as flaws and cast aside, can instead create new sensations and values. Breakage and cracks, rough textures, and the traces of glaze that has flowed down are not defects, but a sculptural language that prompts us to reconsider the standard of ‘perfection’.
Our society easily judges and rejects things believed to have flaws or defects as worthless. Through this jar, I seek to move beyond the binary of value judgments and to propose a point of departure for discovering new possibilities within what has been rejected or what exists outside our conventional notions.
